Happy End of January!
I cannot believe that February is around the corner! It amazes me how quickly
we have progressed through this year! We made it past the 100th day of school,
and now we are counting down (backward starting from 80) to the last day of
kindergarten!
Next month is a busy month with a Valentine Party! Please have your child bring
in a shoe type box to decorate! I would like these by the first week of
February. For our Valentine cards, you will only have your child write their
name on the from portion. It Is too difficult to find names and specialize
Valentine's so please leave the to part, blank. Austyn's mother, Christal, has
graciously accepted my invite to hostess our party. Please look for forwarded
and paper information to come. The date of our party is February 13th. This is
the same week as our parent/teacher conferences so keep your eye open!
On Friday, because of the big Super Bowl hosted in our own back yard, your child
will be able to wear their favorite football team shirt, sweatshirt or jersey.
If they don't have one it's okay Character Count's shirt is perfect for
Friday's.
We are continuing to learn about shapes and distinguishing between 2d or plane,
and 3d shapes. We will continue to learn about 3d and will have covered vertex,
corners, and faces! We will also learn which roll, stack, and slide. We have
also touched on adding and will continue to incorporate this new strategy.
In reading/writing we are learning about our vowels (A, E, I, O, U). We also
have learned and are continuing to understand magic E...Magic E changes the
vowel from the letter sound, to the letter name (tap/tape). We are also
writing sentences and copying questions. Your student should be able to
recognize the beginning letter of a sentence has an upper case or capital, and
the ending has an end mark. (Period or Question Mark)
Soon we will be starting reading Junie B Jones series. These are chapter books
and the character, Junie B. Is quite silly! While we read these we will learn
more about character, and learn about setting (words help us recognize this).
We will then be writing and drawing about what we think the setting is, and
what we think the character looks like.
As a reminder, Friday's are show and tell days. Your child may bring ONE item
from home. All children know that if they play with it, or are disruptive when
another is presenting then they may lose their opportunity to share.
Thanks to all of you for remembering to bring your child snacks. I do not have
any extras at this time, and so far, so good! Thank you for treasure box
donations, as well. I appreciate your generosity.
Have a wonderful week,
Mrs. Crone
